SECTION A (ICT)

1a. Write short note on the following categories of artificial satellite

      • Navigation satellite: A satellite used for determining the geographic position of objects on Earth. It aids in mapping, navigation, and location tracking (e.g., GPS).
      • Weather satellite: This satellite monitors weather and climate conditions, providing images and data used in weather forecasting.
      • Communication satellite: A satellite used for transmitting television, radio, and telephone signals between distant locations.

1b. Write down the procedures for satellite installation

      • Select an appropriate location for installation.
      • Assemble the satellite dish and fix it securely.
      • Connect the dish to the receiver.
      • Align the dish towards the satellite using a signal meter.
      • Fine-tune the position for the strongest signal.
      • Secure the dish and test the signal reception.

2b. Explain in detail how satellite works, show the diagram where necessary

A satellite works by receiving signals transmitted from Earth (uplink), amplifying them, and retransmitting them back to Earth (downlink). The signals can be for communication, weather monitoring, etc. The process involves sending the signals to the satellite in space, which then broadcasts the information back to various receivers on Earth.

SECTION B (ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONICS)

1a. With the aid of a well-labeled circuit diagram, write short note on the working principle of the power supply.

      • The power supply converts electrical energy from one form (AC or DC) to another. It steps down high voltage to a usable voltage, rectifies it (converts AC to DC), and smoothens the output to provide a stable voltage.

1b. Discuss any five (5) wiring tools used in the present SWEP exercise.

      • Wire strippers: Used to remove the insulation from electrical wires.
      • Pliers: Used for gripping and cutting wires.
      • Screwdrivers: Used to tighten or loosen screws in electrical devices.
      • Multimeter: Used for measuring voltage, current, and resistance in a circuit.
      • Cable testers: Used to check for continuity in wires and cables.

1c. List any two (2) soldering tools you know.

      • Soldering iron
      • Solder wire

2a. Why do we need to model a circuit?

      • Modeling a circuit helps to simulate and analyze its behavior before actual implementation. It allows detection of errors, optimizes performance, and reduces cost.

2b. Write and explain any five (5) electronics components.

      • Resistor: Limits the flow of electric current.
      • Capacitor: Stores electrical energy temporarily.
      • Inductor: Stores energy in a magnetic field when electric current flows through it.
      • Diode: Allows current to flow in one direction only.
      • Transistor: Amplifies or switches electronic signals.

2c. State the name of the software used in design and simulation circuit in the just concluded SWEP

      • Proteus
      • Circuit Wizard

2d. Define DB and state any five (5) electrical fittings you know.

DB (Distribution Board): A component of an electricity supply system that divides an electrical power feed into subsidiary circuits while providing a protective fuse or circuit breaker for each circuit.

Electrical fittings: Light fittings, switch sockets, circuit breakers, junction boxes, and conduit pipes.

SECTION C (MECHANICAL)

  1. Write a part program for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Lathe machine and generate the G & M Code for the following personalities.

G&M Code is a programming language for CNC machines. The exact G-code would depend on the specific operations for these personalities. For example, creating a nameplate or engraving for:
        1. H.O.D Mechanical: 'BUHARI'
        2. H.O.D Civil: 'SANDA'
        3. H.O.D Electrical: 'ABDULLAHI'
        4. H.O.D ICT: 'MUHAMMED
  1. Write the following statement in part programming and convert it to G&M Code: ‘FACULTY OF ENGINEERING’

SECTION D (CIVIL)

1a. Briefly describe the properties involved for moulding sandcrete hollow block and list the materials required.
      • Properties: Strength, water absorption, durability, and thermal resistance.
      • Materials: Cement, sand, water, and sometimes additives like lime.

1b. Discuss the process of block laying in Building Construction Site.

      • Setting out the foundation, laying the first course of blocks, applying mortar, ensuring level alignment, and continuing with the next layers while using a trowel to spread the mortar.

2a. Describe the procedure for the construction of a lecture stand and the measurements you use for different components.

      • Design the stand using wood or metal. Measure and cut the parts (top, base, and supporting structure). Assemble the pieces using screws or welding, and polish the surface. Common dimensions: height 120 cm, width 60 cm.

2b. List the tools and materials used for the construction of lecture stand and briefly explain their uses.

      • Tools: Saw (for cutting wood), screwdriver (for assembling), hammer (for nailing), measuring tape (for accurate dimensions).
      • Materials: Wood, nails, screws, and paint for finishing.
